FOSTER PARENT SOCIETY OF ONTARIO

FPA Goals and Objectives

A Foster Parent Association represents the interests of a dedicated group of people who choose to provide care for children on behalf of their region’s Children’s Aid Society.

PURPOSE

  • To promote effective communication and good working relationships between Foster Parents and Children’s Aid Services
  • To raise public awareness of, and attitudes to, fostering, foster homes and foster children
  • To provide another level of advocacy for Foster Parents and for the children in their care and through which Foster Parents may receive assistance in the resolution of individual problems
  • To keep all members updated with regard to any new developments related to fostering
  • To provide a forum for foster parents to individually express opinions and challenge issues of concern
  • To provide a collective voice on issues of importance to FPA members and thereby allowing a vehicle by which Foster Parents might place recommendations with an individual Children’s Aid Society
  • To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas in the handling of subjects common to foster parenthood, including the developing standards for foster care and recommending improvements in policies and services relating to foster care.
  • To create a better awareness within various departments of the Children’s Aid Services and the public, of the problems associated with foster parenting and the opportunities available for better meeting the needs of the children in the care of Foster Parents.
