P.R.I.D.E is a pre-service training program for prospective foster and adoptive parents. The program identifies some of the challenges you will face as you explore the possibilities and opportunities that abound in the world of caring for children and families that are facing difficulties. There is a great need for people who are empathetic, trained and skilled in dealing with issues that may come.  P.R.I.D.E. stands for PARENT RESOURCES for INFORMATION, DEVELOPMENT and EDUCATION.

The program is based on the philosophy that the value of family life for children, however family is defined, is compelling. Because of this knowledgeable and skilled foster parents and adoptive parents are integral in providing quality services. They like the Social Workers should be qualified, prepared, developed, selected and licensed or certified to work as members of a professional team equipped to protect and nurture children and strengthen families.

The program is based on six essential competencies:

  • Protecting and nurturing children
  • Meeting children’s development needs and dealing with developmental delays
  • Supporting relationships between children and their families
  • Connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime
  • Participating as a member of a professional team
  • Reinforcing a child’s heritage and cultural identity
