Santa Ron 675
Santa Ron Archer recently received the Jack Ross Memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to the children and families in our community.

The Jack Ross Memorial Award was established by the Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Society of Oxford County in 1985, in recognition of the commitment and contribution made to our community by the late Constable Jack Ross. In order to ensure that the community remembers his life and contributions to the lives of others in the County, the Board annually presents an outstanding resident of our County with the Jack Ross Memorial Award. To be eligible to receive this special award, individuals must be: a resident of Oxford County; 18 years of age or over; and an individual who has performed outstanding service beyond the call of duty to children and/or families of Oxford County.

Since 2014, volunteer Ron Archer has made several people’s season brighter by playing the role of the best REAL BEARDED Santa for several agency events and initiatives. Last year over $23,000 was raised from the “Santa for Hire” campaign to support agency activities and the Endowment Fund. Throughout the year, Santa participants in breakfasts with children, reads to children at libraries, swims with children at recreation centers within the county, helps with toy drives, helps with the Society’s Angel Tree program, attends and makes many Christmas party stops, community events and home visits and is available to be booked for family portraits.

Santa made over 175 visits in 2017 including stops at the Woodstock Hospital and Sakura House on Christmas day to bring some holiday cheer. Summer is also a very busy time for Santa Ron coordinating the “Cribs For Kids” campaign which helps raise money to purchase cribs for families in Oxford County. Over $8,000 was raised for this program last summer.

Throughout the year, Santa Ron also works on obtaining corporate and event sponsors for the Society’s annual curling bonspiel, the new Monday night Cops and Rodders car show at TA Woodstock and the Ingersoll Community Cruise event. He has participated in London’s Night of Heroes for Community Living and the WDDS Runway of Stars.

Santa Ron has made an exceptional contribution to the children and families of Oxford County through his energy, enthusiasm, steadfastness, and passion and he is most deserving of the Jack Ross Award.

Thank you Santa Ron for all you have done here and within the county.

Celebrate the value of volunteering!

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to celebrate and thank Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers.
This year's theme is: “Celebrate the Value of Volunteering – building confidence, competence, connections and community”.

Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that “you get more than you give”. From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.
